Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)

There are many factors that contribute to development of Type 2 diabetes.  In this group, learn and practice what you can do to mitigate your risk and manage mild hyperglycemia.

Prediabetes is a major public health concern.  More than 1/3rd of American adults have prediabetes but 90% don't know it.  Prediabetes is a health condition that not only puts individuals at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, it also puts them at risk of heart disease, stroke and Alzheimer's disease.

UCDPP lifestyle change program - Components of the yearlong program include a CDC-approved curriculum, a trained lifestyle coach, and a support group of adults with similar goals and challenges.  The trained lifestyle coach facilitates discussion on healthy eating, ways to increase physical activity, stress management techniques, and ideas to stay motivated.

This group-based program meets weekly, over zoom, for the first 4-months.  Then the meetings occur twice monthly and finally monthly for the last few months. Learn how to make meaningful and sustainable changes to address risks in your life and lead to better health. In particular, the curriculum focuses on a healthy relationship with food and movement as well as practicing ways to make sustainable change to prevent the development of Type 2 diabetes.

Please note that this is a non-diet approach with an emphasis on honoring your body’s cues and making intentional choices.

This program is open and offered at no-cost to members of the UC Davis and UC Davis Health staff and faculty who qualify.
