Health and Well-being Award Spotlight

UC Davis Staff Assembly’s annual Citations of Excellence awards program provides recognition for non-represented UC Davis and UC Davis Health individual staff and staff teams, who have demonstrated outstanding achievement.  

In 2024, a health and well-being category was introduced for both Citations of Excellence and staff scholarships. The Health and Well-being Citations of Excellence awards aim to recognize individuals and teams of staff who positively affect their workplace community and environment by: 

Emergency Showers in Publicly Accessible Areas

In recent years, campus has seen an increased number of emergency eye wash/shower combination units in publicly accessible areas being activated, either accidentally or intentionally with malicious intent, resulting in significant damage to buildings and equipment. EH&S and Facilities are working together to help reduce the impact of these activations with a pilot BSAS program to outfit these units with silent alarms.

In September, Krisztina Forward and Maura Ferrero, Safety Officers for the School of Veterinary Medicine, coordinated a building evacuation fire drill over five days for seven buildings

Heat Illness Prevention in Indoor Places of Employment

On July 23, 2024, a new regulation went into effect which aims to prevent heat illness in indoor workplaces. 

The regulation applies to all indoor workplaces where temperatures are equal or greater to 82°F – with a few exceptions. “Indoor” refers to spaces that are under a ceiling or overhead covering which restricts airflow and is enclosed along its entire perimeter by walls, doors, windows, dividers, or other physical barriers which restrict airflow.

SafetyNet 534 Update

The recent revisions and renaming of SafetyNet 534: Building Evacuations for Individuals with Access and Functional Needs (AFN), reflect the Davis campus’ shift toward promoting nationally recognized best practices and emphasizing the need for inclusive evacuation planning.

Emergency Management & Mission Continuity Releases UC Ready Guidebook

The UC Ready Guidebook is designed to help continuity plan owners and end users navigate the UC Ready platform, create new continuity plans, update existing plans, and provide a more seamless experience when using the platform. The guidebook contains helpful process documentation for UC Ready, as well as tips and recommendations for an overall better user experience when updating or creating a continuity plan.

Meet Kelsie Sladen, our new Youth Protection Specialist within Risk Management Services

Welcome, Kelsie Sladen! 

Kelsie will serve as a subject matter expert and the point of contact for policies and practices related to the protection of minors. Her responsibilities include developing, implementing, and coordinating guidelines, protocols, training, and compliance activities to ensure a secure environment for youth participating in University programs. Previously, at the CARE Office on campus, she worked as a Training and Education Specialist focusing on Sexual Violence Education and Prevention for students, faculty, and staff.
