Safety Services Presents Another Successful DSC Spring Mixer

Safety Services hosted a Spring Social for the Departmental Safety Coordinators on April 2nd at Putah Creek Lodge.

DSCs enjoyed refreshments, mingled with colleagues and Safety Services staff, collected trivia about other departments and participated in a raffle to win Safety Services goodies. Thank you to all who participated!

DSCs play a key role in developing and implementing a department’s safety program.

Campus policy 290-15 does a great job of outlining DSCs roles and responsibilities and can help when developing a DSC position description.

Laboratory Closeout Pilot Incentive Program

UC Davis Environmental Health and Safety is piloting an incentive program to promote the timely decommissioning of laboratories before a Principal Investigator or Responsible Person vacates the space.

Hydrofluoric Acid Producing Compounds

Hydrofluoric acid (HF) is a hazardous chemical that can readily penetrate the skin, leading to the destruction of soft tissues and decalcification of bones. One chemical group that is often overlooked are HF-producing materials/compounds. The Chemical Hygiene team has developed a custom chemical band in RSS Chemicals to help labs identify chemicals that may fall into this hazard category.
